Lithium Ion Battery Charging Cabinets
Safely managing the charging and storage of lithium-ion batteries in the workplace is crucial to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of employees. The new Justrite lithium ion battery charging and storage cabinet provides the ideal storage solution.
Li Ion Battery Storage Risks
Improperly charging and storing lithium-ion batteries can pose several risks, including fire and explosion. The batteries contain a liquid electrolyte that is highly volatile and flammable. Exposure to high temperatures may cause them to catch fire or even explode. This risk is heightened when the batteries are not charged or stored correctly.
Thermal runaway is another potential risk. Lithium-ion batteries generate heat as a by-product of their power production. If a battery becomes too hot, it can lead to a thermal runaway situation in which the battery overheats and loses control, potentially resulting in a fire or explosion.
In extreme cases, improper charging and storage of lithium-ion batteries can cause a release of toxic gases, such as hydrogen fluoride and phosphorus oxyfluoride. These gases can be harmful to human health if inhaled.
To minimize these risks, it is important to follow safety guidelines when charging and storing lithium-ion batteries. This includes using the appropriate charger, avoiding overcharging or undercharging, storing batteries in a cool and dry place away from flammable materials, and disposing of damaged or old batteries properly.

4 Reasons Lithium Battery Fires are More Dangerous

Dangerously Explosive
Thermal Runaway, a chemical reaction that can lead to a fire or explosion, and the combination of gases and pressure build-up unique to lithium-ion batteries make fires spread further and faster

Highly Toxic
Hydrogen Fluoride fumes are emitted when a lithium-ion battery is ignited posing several short-term and chronic threats to people including respiratory and skin irritation, dizziness, headaches, and suffocation as well as a negative environmental impact.

Difficult to Extinguish
Lithium-ion batteries can generate it’s own heat and fuel, explode, have chemical reactions with water, and burn at higher than-typical temperatures that can melt concrete, steel, and water hoses, and can reignite after extinguishing.

Gives Little Warning
The enclosed nature of lithium-ion batteries can mask potential indicators of battery failure and can create a fast-spreading fire or explosion without warning or notice.
The Dangers of Lithium-Ion Batteries
Lithium-ion batteries are vulnerable to failure from thermal runaway, producing fire, explosions, smoke, and toxic gases, resulting in catastrophic property losses while endangering people.
9-Layer
ChargeGuard™
9-Layer ChargeGuard™ Containment System

Double-wall Cabinet Construction
Welded double-wall steel provides a solid structure that keeps potential
explosions contained.

Pressure Relief Vent System
Vented door panels dampen the explosive force from thermal runaway and battery failure.

Reinforced Steel Door Latch Plates
Steel latch rods made with reinforced latch cradle plates ensure the cabinet doors remain closed.

Flame Arrestors
Double-layer wire-mesh flame arrestors absorb heat and stop flames from escaping the cabinet.

Double Wall with Air Gap
Absorbent interior walls transfer the energy of high-temperature battery failures while a 1-1/2” inch air gap insulates, maintaining a surface temperature that is safe to touch.

Door Hinge Flame Guards
Tight sealing door hinge with flame guard prevents fires escaping through the door hinges, preventing secondary fires outside the cabinet.

Spring Loaded Dampers
Automatic Damper flaps close when the cabinet temperature reaches 135°F to reduce the release of harmful smoke and gases by as much as 99%.

Unique Filtration System
Pressure Relief Venting System with an integrated filter traps smoke and absorbs harmful toxins.

Heat Activated Expanding Door Seals
Intumescent seals swell as temperatures rise to prevent smoke, fumes, and flames from escaping from the door frame.
